John Peter RickettsĀ was born on August 19, 1964 in Nebraska City, USA. He is an American politician and businessman serving as theĀ 40thĀ Governor of NebraskaĀ since 2015. He is a member of theĀ Republican Party.

His Father, Joe Ricketts founded First Omaha Securities in 1975, one of the first discountĀ stockbrokersĀ in the United States. The company prospered, changing its name to Ameritrade, going public in 1997, and changing its name toĀ TD AmeritradeĀ after acquiringĀ TD WaterhouseĀ in 2006.Ā Marlene was a teacher.

Ricketts and his siblings,Ā Tom,Ā Laura, andĀ Todd, all attendedĀ Westside High SchoolĀ in Omaha, from which Ricketts graduated in 1982. He attended theĀ University of Chicago, receiving aĀ BAĀ in biology in 1986 and anĀ MBAĀ in marketing and finance in 1991.
